* Gregor's Room Final Solution

3D Project:  Create a 5 piece bedroom representation with only using paper, water and ink. Inspired by Kafka's Metamorphosis.  After reading the story my response was this piece.  The main character Gregor is a traveling salesman who's life revolves around working long, hard days to support his family. He feels trapped in the monotony of his life, constantly working. The fear of stepping out of line creates a panic within him. After Gregor changes into the bug, with a million little legs, he feels trapped within his room. A different sort of panic has set in.  The bed was seen as an enormous piece that Gregor had to overcome in his new life. As he learned to control the different parts of his body, he lost more of himself and his old world. The rug was plush, soft enough to fall onto and not get hurt. The headboard was ornate and the rich royal blue and green are signs that the family was trying to live in a fashion that was above their means. Thus adding to the stress Gregor f

* Figurative Sculptures Final Solution

3D Project: Use polymer clay to sculpt two busts that interpret world topics that have deep meaning to you. Artist Statement:  The figurative sculptures are intertwined together focusing on mental health. Figure number one "Imprisoned" shows a faceless person who is a prisoner of their own feelings. These feelings are generated in the brain, often times you can not shut it off. The bust is shown wearing a prisoner uniform, with deep groves penetrating the body, then darkened by black paint. There is a lock around the neck holding that person down so they feel as if the weight will never left them. Figure number two "Desolation" resembles a girl, embodying the void that lives inside, the face is expressionless. Carrying this ever present feeling of nothingness there is a hollow greyness exposing the emptiness. The two pieces are ever present and playing off one another.   Final Solution Together Height: #1 - 4.5 x 2 x 1 in #2 - 4.75 x 3 x 1.5 in Material: Amaco air d

* Dinner and a Movie Final Installation

3D Project Dinner and a Movie: Use ordinary objects to depict a movie. Sol/Sole/Soul Inspired by The Martian This piece rests on the fragility of life. The two bowls speak to the isolation one would feel if that was the world you (alone) lived in. There is nothing but sand and rock. The only food source is what is engineered from what you have under the dome. You feel the sense of urgency, where things are improvised on the fly. Nothing is smooth, wrinkles or barriers exist between you and survival. You are fighting for life, where every turn could succumb to the point of danger.
